Johnson Equestrian provides safe, correct, positive instruction to meet your specific needs and help you accomplish your riding goals. Johnson Equestrian offers lessons for the first-time rider, the experienced rider looking for some fine-tuning, and riders at every level in between. Kerra Johnson, full-time instructor of seven years, is fully licensed and insured. At Kerkaken Acres in Bloxom, VA, where she teaches lessons daily, horses and ponies are available on-site for use during lessons, or you are welcome to trailer in your own horse. Lessons are approximately 45 minutes long.
At Johnson Equestrian, beginners not only will learn how to ride, but they also will learn how to care for their equine partners. Intermediate and advanced riders will focus on specific training and problem-solving skills to improve their skill level and move towards their goals. At all levels, Kerra emphasizes the importance of proper equitation. A strong, correct foundation in riding allows a rider to be successful in any discipline.

Pony Camps
Johnson Equestrian strives to make a little army of compassionate, competent horsemen and women! Each summer, in partnership with Pony Pines Farm, Johnson Equestrian offers pony camps for youth 5 to 12 years of age. Beginner pony camp will be offered this year from June 18th-June 20th. The day begins promptly at 9:00 A.M. and ends at 1:00 P.M. Lunch is provided daily. Students take a riding lesson each day and learn essential horsemanship skills through exciting, relevant, hands-on practice. The curriculum includes topics such as bathing and grooming the horse; equine anatomy; types, care of, and correct use of tack; proper leg bandaging; and basic equine first aid and nutrition. Beginner pony camps also incorporate good ol’ summertime fun! Campers will enjoy making craft projects and cooling off with a dip in the above-ground pool.
This year, in addition to beginner pony camp, Johnson Equestrian will offer “Theory Camp” for more advanced riders. Kerra has developed this camp based on several riding theories. This particular camp model is appropriate for junior riders who can walk, trot, and canter in a regular lesson program and who want to deepen their knowledge of horses and riding. Students will get to ride each day and study hippology while enjoying the camaraderie of peers who share their passion for horses. Theory Camp is set for June 26th-June 29th. The camp will begin promptly at 9:00 A.M. and end at 3:00 P.M. Lunch is provided daily.
Pony camps are very popular and always fill up quickly. Don’t delay in enrolling your budding equestrian! To sign up for a pony camp, contact Kerra by using one of the options found on the “Contact” link at the top of the page.
