Kerra Johnson - InstructorKerra Johnson, owner and operator of Johnson Equestrian, started riding before she could walk and participated in her first horse show at the age of three. Originally from Lancaster, PA, she grew up riding in her local 4-H club. She first competed with her Shetland pony and finished the program with her off-the-track Thoroughbred (OTTB) mare, Society Linn. As a youth, Kerra competed mainly hunt seat. During her junior years she had the good fortune to gain valuable experience in various disciplines, thus teaching her respect and appreciation for the incredible amount of training that goes into unlocking the potential in a horse, regardless of discipline.
After high school, Kerra began to focus on three-day eventing, a sport she had grown to love for its technicality and demand of commitment to horsemanship and dedicated training for both horse and rider. Knowing she was aiming to be a professional in the equine industry, Kerra furthered her education and earned an associate’s degree in veterinary technology. Before making the transition from amateur rider to professional, Kerra had the coveted opportunity to become a working student for professionals at the elite level of the sport. During her tenure as a working student, she gained inestimable knowledge and experience in three-day eventing. Kerra has been teaching and training professionally for seven years and currently runs Johnson Equestrian full-time out of Kerkaken Acres in Bloxom, VA. Besides educating others, she continues her own education by regularly taking lessons with Molly Rosin Kinnamon (2009 USEF Eventing Developing Riders List) and participating in clinics with top coaches including Noel Clark (long listed for 2006 Canadian Olympic eventing team) and Boyd Martin (USA representative on the 2012 London Olympic eventing team). Kerra with her now retired mare "Society Linn".

Kerra and her USEA- and USEF- registered Thoroughbred/Connemara mare, Page3girl, competed at preliminary level until 2015. Due to an unfortunate suspensory injury, Page was retired from Preliminary level. After a successful rehab she is now taking a young rider through the ropes. They have had a great year of progress! Kerra acquired two Irish imported geldings from fellow eventing professional, Timothy Bourke - "Fledge", a large chestnut gelding with a laid-back demeanor and "Starlord", a stunning grey with a great mind. Follow Kerra’s progress with these boys by bookmarking this website and visiting frequently! With her degree in veterinary technology, her broad inter-disciplinary experience, and her strong foundation in three-day eventing, Kerra has much to offer each horse and student in her program. She looks forward to the future and is very thankful to be able to pursue her passion as a career. |
Katye Oshaben - Instructor
Born into a horse loving family, Katye Oshaben rode horses before she could walk. She was in her first leadline class at age 2, and despite all the other things that have come into her life, horses continue to play a major role.
Katye holds an Associate’s Degree in Education from the Eastern Shore Community College. She trains her own horses and gives riding lessons with Johnson Equestrian. Her specialty is eventing, but she has experience in both English and Western pleasure, hunt seat, trail, and halter training.
From her first Shetland pony, “Dapples”, which she bought for herself at the age of 6, to her very first horse that she trained from the ground up, “Andante”, she has filled her stables with a variety of breeds of horses and ponies. Some of those breeds include Miniature ponies, Shetland ponies, Chincoteague ponies, Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses, Paints, and many other crossbreeds.
From a young age, she was an active member in 4H and competed on local, county, regional, and state levels with performance and production (young halter style classes) horses of varying breeds. She had the distinction of taking Misty’s Black Mist to the Pennsylvania State Finals in working hunter-over-fences, which was the first time a Chincoteague pony qualified to compete at that high of a level. She also performed with Black Mist at events all across the United States, including a National Vet Symposium at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA.
She was one of the youngest members to ever compete and perform nationally on the Chincoteague Pony Drill Team, and continues to do so today. Her appearances have included locations such as the Kentucky State Park, Fair Hill International, and Equitana USA.
Katye currently does recognized events with her Thoroughbred/Paint cross Old Money, as known as “Jimmy”. She continues her education with clinicians such as Tim Bourke and Sinead Halpin.
