Training
Kerra started training horses and ponies at a very young age. Growing up, she spent a great deal of time working with her mother’s Chincoteague ponies (and even now has a special place in her heart for Chincoteague ponies!). She progressed from training ponies to retraining Thoroughbreds off the track, which she has done for many years. In her fifteen years of training experience, Kerra has successfully worked with horses at every stage of training.
Whether you are a backyard owner who enjoys pleasure and trail riding, a hunter whose horse needs exercises to gain adjustability at the canter to make the lines, or a foxhunter whose horse needs experience over cross-country fences in the open, Kerra’s depth of experience as an accomplished three-day eventer provides her with the tools to soundly train horses for myriad uses. Consider these examples of training goals Kerra has successfully achieved:
· Starting young (and not-so-young) horses under saddle
· Introducing horses to jumping
· Retraining a horse for a new career
· Addressing problem behaviors or gaps in training
· Exposing and desensitizing a horse to trail riding
· Putting “mileage” on a green horse
· Teaching a horse dressage movements and exercises
· Legging up, or bringing a horse back into work
· Moving a horse up the levels in dressage, show jumping, and cross-country
Kerra is able to tailor a correct training program that will build your horse’s ability, confidence, and consistency. She looks forward to helping you enjoy a long and happy future with your equine partner.
